The place where the interior is rare but the burger is perfectly done.
Soczewka is a restaurant specializing in steaks and burgers, situated in an unusual location which for many years functioned as optician’s shop named ‘Lens’ (‘Soczewka’ in Polish).
The task was to create a restaurant where menu focuses on beef dishes served in a multiple forms of steaks and burgers in an unpretentious but hip environment.
It was important that the simplicity of interior was complementary to existing structure and features and all new functions and elements were emphasized in historical context.
We created the concept distinctly referring to the past of the place in which the interior design works as an interesting background for excellent food.
The already existing spatial layout helped us to divide the restaurant space into the front dining area with bar, the back area with semi-open kitchen and additional dining room on the mezzanine. With slight correction of the walls course each area was smoothly combined with the other to create a coherent whole.
All interior design elements were focused on creating the contrast between the old and the new as well as finding a compromise between the limited budget and the characteristics of the existing space.
That is why we left some of the walls in shell – so that they can trace the history of the place. As wall lining we used gray wooden slats and shiny glazing in vivid colors to distinguish the severity of bricks. In such environment the intensive color of pastel coral used on tables and chairs could easily stand out so as the characteristic light in a ‘halo’ shape and backlit signboard inspired by the optician’s eye chart.
